SOUNDERS HOST ATLANTA IN USL-1 FINAL
The Seattle Sounders will be aiming for their fourth USL-1 title Saturday night when they play host to the Atlanta Silverbacks, who will be making their first championship game appearance. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Soccer Channel at 10:00 pm ET.
USL-1 SEMIFINAL PREVIEW
The history of the USL First Division playoffs have proven the old adage that defense wins championships. Looking at the backgrounds of the two semifinal series, it appears that saying will once again come into play as Atlanta, Portland and Puerto Rico look to reach their first championship game as the 2005 champion Sounders look to claim their fourth title.
USL-1 QUARTERFINAL PREVIEW
The postseason for the USL First Division 2007 Championship kicks off Friday, September 14 with the first leg match-ups of the two-game, aggregate score Quarterfinals, which conclude on Sunday, September 16. The second leg of the Vancouver-Portland series Sunday at 8:00 pm ET will be live on Fox Soccer Channel. All other games will be available on USL Live.
W-LEAGUE PLAYERS HEADED TO WORLD CUP
The 2007 Women's World Cup in China will kick off next Monday for 54 current and former W-League players representing nine countries and 17 current W-League teams. Although the tournament is in China four years later than expected, the number of W-League alumni slated to participate has grown from the 42 that took part in the 2003 tournament in the United States.
LAREDO WINS PDL CHAMPIONSHIP REMATCH
It took penalties, but the Laredo Heat got their vengeance Saturday night in the first-ever Premier Development League Championship rematch, winning the title 4-3 in a six-round penalty kick tiebreaker after a scoreless draw against the Michigan Bucks side that beat them on the same field a year ago 2-1. Seventeen-year-old Felix Garcia would strike the winner in the dramatic shootout.
