2006 REVIEW

The Delaware Dynasty men's soccer team made history in 2006 by being the first team since the Wizards to bring soccer back on a national level to Delaware. The 26 player roster consisted of both local player as well as players that have played on a nationaly.

The Delaware Dynasty opened the inaugural PDL season on May 19 2006, with a 5-1 home victory over the respected Vermont Voltage at Kirkwood Soccer Complex. A spacious 120 by 70 yards, the all-weather surface opened in September at Kirkwood's 60-acre, 14-field complex on Rte. 9 south of New Castle. The Dynasty, the following week, hosted the Albany Admirals, one of the older teams in the Northeast division. With a loss of 2-1 the Dynasty faced their first glimpse of the competitive nature of the PDL division. On May 27, 2006, the Dynasty played their first ever away game against the Richmond Kickers, in Richmond Virginia. The score hovered a 0-0 till the final minutes of the game where Midfielder Michael Crowley nailed the final goal giving the Dynasty the 1-0 victory. The following day the Dynasty replayed a match against the Virginia Beach Submariner, postponed to bad weather, with a loss of 2-0.

Three games in the same week can prove challenging to the best of athletes. The Dynasty played their next two games away, with a 2-0 loss to the Reading Rage and a 7-2 loss to the Rhode Island Stingrays. With a week to recuperate the Dynasty the Dynasty faced their next four matches at home.

With a victory of 3-2 over the Westchester Flames the Dynasty were still holding their third seat position in the Northeast Division. The following week the Dynasty hosted the veteran Ocean City Baron with a 2-2 tie. Setting up for the rematch against the Rhode Island Stingray's, who made it to the first round of the Open Cup, the Dynasty faced their greatest opponent. With a victory of 3-2 the Dynasty showed the visiting team that Delaware team was worthy of its rank. The next two games were played away with a 3- 0 defeat against the West Chester Flames and a 3-1 defeat against the Reading Rage.

The following week would be a rematch with the Reading Rage where the Dynasty would once again show the veteran team they were not out of gas. The Dynasty defeated Reading with a victory of 3-1. Coming close to the end of their 2006 season the Delaware Dynasty played the Ocean City Barons away with a tie of 2-2, the second tie match. The conclusion of the PDL season ended with a defeat against Ottawa Fury 2-1 and a loss against the Vermont Voltage 3-2. The Dynasty completed the 2006 inaugural PDL season with a record of 5-9-2 finishing fourth within the Northeast Division.
